There's something on at Black Ivory most nights of the week. Live piano every Wednesday, open mic the first Sunday of every month, live entertainment every subsequent Sunday afternoon at 3pm, and Jazz & Gin Night on the last Saturday of each month. On top of that: special performances, guest artists passing through, and the occasional evening that needs to be seen to be understood. Maria Nicol brings her acclaimed jazz trio to Black Ivory for one evening — a proper concert in a room small enough that you'll feel every note. Maria is recognised as one of the finest jazz pianists working in the UK today; this is a rare chance to hear her perform in an intimate setting rather than a concert hall.
We'll be serving Drunken Horse gin, wines by the glass and canapés throughout the evening. The room will be arranged to face the piano. Tables are limited — this one will sell out.

Live piano every Wednesday — and if you play, we want you on the night. Alongside our resident set we invite musicians up to perform, and the response from the room has been everything we hoped for. Bring something to play, or just come and listen. Drunken Horse Gin, wines, canapés. Tables typically gone by Tuesday lunchtime.

First Sunday of every month · 3pm
Hosted by Tony Scorza and Al Bovey — Paignton's friendliest open mic. Any pianist is welcome to play the Grand. Bring a song, an arrangement, or just sit down and see what happens. Audience tables and walk-ins equally welcome.

Live entertainment every Sunday at 3pm — including our monthly Coffee & Jazz afternoon, hosted by acclaimed jazz pianist and teacher Maria Nicol. A relaxed, welcoming session designed to bring younger audiences into jazz; children and families are very much part of the point. Tea, coffee and music. No booking required, though a table is wise.

Last Saturday of every month · from 8pm · the only monthly jazz night in Paignton
Slower tempo, stronger drinks. A different jazz line-up each month — piano trio, vocal-led ensemble, occasionally guests from further afield. The gin list opens up for the evening with featured pours and flights. Tables are arranged to face the piano.

The whole room open for a day of wellness, health and community.
On 22 August, Black Ivory opens up for a full day wellness fair. Practitioners, coaches, therapists and traders are welcome to take a stall — this is a curated, relaxed event in an unusual space, not a trade show. A good room for good conversations.
Stall spaces are available at a flat fee. If you work in wellbeing, health, nutrition, movement or any adjacent field and want to be part of it, get in touch now — spaces are limited.
· Beyond the Music ·
On the quieter parts of the week — Tuesday mornings, Thursday afternoons, Friday mornings — the room opens up for community groups: wellbeing sessions, lunch clubs, networking mornings, and more. A better space than a community hall, without the community-hall atmosphere.
