Paignton needed a proper night out that didn't involve sticky floors or questionable karaoke. Black Ivory is the piano bar Paignton was missing — live music most nights of the week, well-made cocktails, an honest gin list, and one of the few late-night bars in Paignton where the room itself is the reason to stay. Two minutes from the seafront, ten minutes from Torquay.
A resident pianist most nights, with guest performers on themed evenings. Not a playlist with the lights down. Wednesdays are live piano from 8pm. Saturdays change with the season.
Signature cocktails built around what's behind the bar — including the Drunken Horse from Belgium, a bright citrus gin with a Himalayan Timut pepper finish you won't find elsewhere in Torbay. Wines chosen to drink, not to impress.
The room changes when someone sits at the piano — conversations get quieter, drinks last longer. There's something about live music in a small space that a big venue never quite manages.

Sharing plates and small dishes designed to last a couple of cocktails. Not a restaurant — a bar that feeds you properly. Truffle arancini, charcuterie, things you actually want to eat at 9pm with a drink in your other hand.

Birthdays, anniversaries, corporate evenings, anything where you want the place to yourselves. Paignton doesn't have many private-hire venues that do live music, full bar service and proper food in one room. We do all three.

Two minutes from Paignton seafront, ten minutes from Torquay. One of the only piano bars in Torbay, and the closest piano bar to Torquay you'll find this side of Bristol. Free street parking nearby in the evenings. A short walk from Paignton railway station.
